NBU (Numismatic Brilliant uncirculated): Coins not intended for circulation struck and sold by the Mint, often in a special package. For most NBU certified coins, they are attributed the MS grades, unless a circulation coin wasn't produce for that particuliar combinaison of year, denomination and design. While not quite non circulating legal tender it is not too unusual to find coins intended for mint sets in circulation.
While these coins might bear the same design as normal circulating coins their lustre and quality of strike sometimes makes them stand out from the norm.

Varieties and features
Five dollar 2012 - Crux Southern Sky
The Royal Australian Mint in partnership with the National Science Week and to celebrate astronomy and engineering, produced this curved coin. It emulates the night sky and feature the Southern Cross.
The Mint had unveiled prototypes of the curved coin in 2011. The coin design features the Crux constellation, otherwise known as the Southern Cross, which spans the domed surface of the silver coin like a celestial sphere. There are also navigational markers bordering the design, which point out where the viewer would face when looking up at the sky to get the best view of the constellation.
Five dollar 2012 - Australian Open
To celebrate the announcement of the collectible coin program commemorating the 100th time the Australian Open men's singles championship will be contested in January 2012. The coin features a replica of the 100th Men's Champion medal.
