The Royal Australian Mint has produced a coin range commemorating this summer's 3 mobile Ashes Series, that includes a $10 gold proof coin, $5 silver proof coin and a $1 uncirculated coin, which feature the famous Ashes urn flanked by the Australian kangaroo and English lion, two iconic symbols of both countries.
Five of the $5 silver proof coins from this coin range are to be used in the coin toss for each 3 mobile Ashes Test. The coins used at the coin tosses, donated by the Royal Australian Mint, sold at auctions, with proceeds going to Cricket Australia's official community partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
- Adelaide: $8,125
- Brisbane: $5,080
- Melbourne: $8,000
- Perth: $3,775
- Sydney: $11,050
All proceeds of the auction are going to Cricket Australia's official community partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service. We will work closely with the Mint, RFDS and Legends Genuine Memorabilia to auction these pieces of Ashes history after each 3 mobile Ashes Test. It is a fantastic opportunity for the true cricket enthusiast to get a very special memento of this highly-anticipated series.

Each of the 1882-2007 Ashes silver proof coins auctioned were framed with a photo of the Captains at the coin toss, and a signed certificate of authenticity. Also presented with the coin is its display case made of kookaburra-like red leather with printed stitching representative of the well known 6 stitch cricket ball used in the 3 mobile Ashes Test series.
The Ashes is a men's Test cricket series played biennially between England and Australia. The term originated in a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, its first Test win on English soil.
The 2006–07 cricket series between Australia and England for The Ashes was played in Australia from 23 November 2006 to 5 January 2007. Australia won the series and regained the Ashes that had been lost to England in the 2005 series.
The five Tests of the series were played at Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. In winning, Australia completed a 5–0 whitewash, the first time this had happened in an Ashes series since 1920–21. The series was also notable for the retirement of four significant Australian players, namely Justin Langer, Damien Martyn, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. Ricky Ponting was named Player of the Series.
