The Royal Australian Corps of Signals Coin
By AG | Friday, 4 April 2025
For 100 years, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals has been at the forefront of military communications, ensuring the swift and secure transfer of information across the battlefield and beyond.
Since its establishment in 1925, the Corps has played a vital role in every major Australian military mission, pioneering advancements in electronic warfare, cyber operations, and cutting-edge military technology.
To commemorate this milestone, the Royal Australian Mint released a 2025 $1 Uncirculated Coin – Centenary of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. This coin pays tribute to the thousands of men and women who have dedicated their service to delivering secure and reliable communications for Australia's defence forces.
Designed by the Mint's Adam Ball, the coin's design honours the Corps' identity and legacy. At its centre stands Mercury, the Roman messenger god, representing the Corps' commitment to transmitting vital information with precision and urgency.
Mercury stands on a globe, symbolising the Corps' national and global reach in military communications. He holds a lightning bolt, signifying rapid communication, while a second bolt beneath his foot reinforces the Corps' motto, Certa Cito – Swift and Sure.
Surrounding this central imagery, a wreath of leaves frames the design, mirroring the original Corps badge. The background features Morse and binary code spelling out Certa Cito, visually linking the Corps' historic roots with its modern evolution in electronic warfare and cyber operations.
The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne.
On the battlefield, Signals provides commanders with the means of controlling the battle using road and air dispatch services, radio, microwave, and satellite links. A high technology computer switched digital network, capable of providing a high quality, high capacity, secure communications network is being introduced.
