Sydney Banking Company - Banknotes

The Sydney Banking Company was established in Sydney in 1839. The bank was closed in 1843 after only 4 years of operation when shareholders uncovered falsified accounts kept by the bank management. The failure was due in part to the close financial ties the bank had with the Bank of Australia, which became insolvent in the same year.
