One pound 1938 to 1953 - Price guide and values
Introduced following the death of King George V, the design of the King George VI one pound note remained unchanged throughout his reign, with only the signatories being modified. The first signature combination - Sheehan/McFarlane - was printed in green, while the remaining combinations until 1953 were printed in black.
For the first time, the letter 'O' was used as a serial number prefix on this note. Approximately 683,956,000 one pound notes were produced between 1938 and 1953 when a new design with Queen Elizabeth on the front and Sturt/Hume on the back was introduced.
