Ten cent 1999 - Not intended for circulation

The 1999 Royal Australian Mint proof coins set was presented in a see-both-sides hard plastic case and presented in a special leatherette protective wallet and a colourful presentation box.

The description panels on this set incorrectly states that the reverse design for the $2 coin was created by Stuart Devlin. The reverse was in fact designed by Horst Hahne. The error was notified on an erratum card which accompanied the set.

Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.

In 1999, the 1 dollar coin original design was replaced with the Older Persons design also used on the 1999 circulating dollar.

A Koala Baby proof set was also released. In 1999, the coins were housed, individually encapsulated, in a plush green leatherette, hinged lid presentation case and a colourful presentation box. Also included is an Antique Finish, Sterling Silver (92.5%), medallion with a diameter of 45 mm, a thickness of 3 mm and a weight of 43 grams. One side of the medallion is blank to enable a child's name to be engraved. 6,707 Baby proof sets were released.
